When doesn't H.L. Mencken have the last word?

"As democracy is perfected, the office represents more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
(as quoted by Roger Cohen in the NY Times, Nov. 18)

  2. A Buddhist truism I will mangle, but you'll get it: don't waste your being in rage; quietly do the good that will overcome.

  3. I wonder if it took longer than Mencken expected. Just a few years short of 100.
